I want to reiterate right away my general perception that endless yammering in comments sections on the internet is in slow decline. Routines that lead nowhere become boring and fade. But I did run across an exceptionally succinct expression of the contradictory philosophy of a common troll:
Many comments are so inane they deserve to be responded to. The writers and the tone of their writings of late have attracted more and more of the whack jobs to come out of the woodwork . And no I do not believe in censorship . If you don’t like someones comment then ignore it.
Well, which is it — comments so inane they deserve response or comments so inane they deserve to be ignored? This passage does a superior job of exposing the universal ego-stumble of trollers: if yer as witty and perceptive as I am, many comments are so inane they deserve my gifted scorn, the rest of you clots should ignore anything that bothers you and in particular leave me alone.
This type of thinker has been around forever, and they never have deserved to be heard. Shutting off empty racket is not censorship.
