The Cambridge Adventure Ends

A residency that began that smothering swelter of a July in 1978 ended a bit after noon today — rather sunny and warm for mid-January — as the 8,000-volume vinyl collection was moved out of soon-to-be-closed Metropolitan Storage on Mass Ave. I no longer have any formal connection to Cambridge, MA. But at some 38 1/2 years, it’s no doubt longer than I’ll have a formal connection to anywhere else. Fascinating town — maybe less than when I arrived, though certainly calmer and safer — more various than outsiders imagine.

At any rate, preparing and executing that switch, along with the onslaught of obits this past couple weeks, has kept me from writing up new records or going beyond the basics in clearing out releases from last year. Now that the LPs are settled, I can return to sorting through the CDs in baskets near the stereo …
