Apparently Maurice White once deputised for the absent Elvin Jones with the John Coltrane Quartet at a Chicago jazz club called McKie’s in the early 1960s according to an interview Maurice had with British journalist Richard Williams in 1978. Also admitted that the Egyptology themes were inspired by Sun Ra.
