Nice to see Colleen Green’s I Want To Grow Up given the nod. She’s a fine reminder of how (too) much recent songwriting is sub- (or post-) literate.
As to the assessment of current atmospherics in general … the other day I played my vintage vinyl copy of the Rough Trade collection Wanna Buy a Bridge? and was astonished at how contemporary it sounded.
Now have the Savage anthology 1966 and am reminded how much a deftly chosen sequence — particularly one you might not expect (based on your previous selections, thank you HAL) — can reawaken you to even very familiar numbers. The same is true of the forthcoming Rough Guide to Americana (Second Edition). (I see the 2001 first edition is now a pricey rarity.)
