R.I.P.: Tony Conrad

Important conceptualist. You gotta be in the right mood for his music, but no question he knew how to hit the scenes.

I saw a copy of this only once, in a bookstore in Oregon. It made a huge impression on me, too, because this was years before I had ever heard of the band. And I was waay too young to buy such pernicious trash according to my parents.

  1. By chance a few days ago I was importing my few Tony Conrad CDs:
Conrad, Tony EARLY MINIMALISM: April 1965 Table of the Elements 1997
Conrad, Tony EARLY MINIMALISM: May 1965 Table of the Elements 1997
Conrad, Tony EARLY MINIMALISM: June 1965 Table of the Elements 1997
Conrad, Tony FOUR VIOLINS (1964) Table of the Elements 1997
Conrad, Tony with Faust OUTSIDE THE DREAM SYNDICATE Table of the Elements 1993
Conrad, Tony SLAPPING PYTHAGORUS Table of the Elements 1995
I hope they crop up in my random-play regime. But meanwhile there was a 16 minute Stockhausen (Kontakte – Part 1) I previewed today (the 603rd hourlong assortment, coming up in a few days).
