R.I.P.: Michael Dann, the Man Who Pretty Much Made TV as I First Knew It

Right taste at the right time and place (mostly). I always thought his regret about toning down Mary Tyler Moore was admirable self-criticism, but the liberated Mary may have been too much for the time. On the other hand, the Don Adams bomb-out was a mystery. It was like he abruptly became a whole other guy and all the funny drained out of him.
