I thought the original Powerpuff Girls was a hoot — the most inventive animation in many years and one that finally made me appreciate simple figures and limited action. I could go on and on — heck, the language was funny, too.
However.
The show was very much of its time and came to a fully natural end. The concepts were used up. But since we are now in the most recycled-ideas era ever, Powerpuff Girls has to be brought back and I can’t make it through even a single episode. They’re teenagers in kids’ bodies. Their feminism feels ritualized, not spontaneous-sassy. And yeah, the new voices are the pits. There may be an old vs. new audience, but I doubt it. Finally, making the jokes more Spongebobian amounts to a defeat.
