First I have to note that I picked this up from the gift shop after seeing the knockout Megacities Asia exhibition at the MFA, Boston. It closes on the 17th and everybody local should hustle on down and see it if you have not. Remarkable.
Various, Psych Funk Sa-Re-Ga! (World Psychedelic Funk Classics, 2010)
The subtitle explains it all to you: “Aesthetic Expressions of Psychedelic Funk Music in India 1970-1983”
I had heard about half the tracks included, but on much weaker programs that included mostly corny crap and misfires assembled by people with bad ears and/or bad taste. This rocks and rumbles (I donno how funky things get, really) all the way through 20 cuts and includes a lovely booklet with illustrations of all the movie posters and detailed scoop on each track and the era. Yeah, it’s amusing that it’s presented as a college course soundtrack. There’s other releases from this label that I intend to check out, but now I wanna go back and grab the rest of the CDs associated with the MFA exhibit because somebody knew what they were doing. (And hey, an associated DVD was the Korean monster masterpiece, The Host.)
