Last year we saw the Dandy Warhols do a show at the wondrous Paper Tiger in San Antonio. About a dozen years before that we heard the Dandys deliver an exquisite performance that remains one of my all-time faves — we walked out the door with stains purged from souls and spirits lifted to the skies. So I would give an extra star to the Dandys albums … but no more than that. Because, sigh, though a very entertaining show, the Paper Tiger performance was more clearly labor than the landmark set and the band has not found a new, older-person sound. Songwriting has kept up a bit better, but reworkings are inescapable.
