The other item for today is a sorta famous rarity that brought a passel of impossible-to-find singles back into Detroit-punk circulation, the double-LP Michigan Brand Nuggets:
Here’s some more scoop. My copy says “2nd Edition” on the back — still not sure what that means — and mine is 456 out of 1000. Paid $15 back when that was big, big money for me — about as much as I could afford for a record — and was my first exposure to the A-Square label, years before I met the late rock and roll sage Jeep Holland.
For a boot of old singles, the sound is outstanding and the programming is flawless. Has all that varied-but-nonstop-on-fire pulse of garage-punk at its prime. Very worth tracking down, though I agree it’s strange Iggy is on the cover with no Stooges included anywhere inside.
