All I Hope I Ever Have To Say About Gawker

“If you never willingly read Gawker, I can’t say I blame you.” — Farhad Manjoo

Thanks, man, that means a lot (NOT).

“But even if you avoided Gawker, you can’t escape its influence” — Ditto

I know, and that’s the problem. Wayback when, I thought if modern snarkjournalism began and ended with Spy it would be equally tolerable and deplorable as a form. As I say, wayback when.

A fundamental insight about quality journalism and durable writing is that the right constraints and restrictions foster superior work. No rules, no responsibility, no integrity, no damn good.

PS: Real journalism scoops are not mere “gotchas” or “hoo-ha looky here.”
